Just like Windows that seems to use the Internet Explorer 'engine' for most of its Finder type functions, the Mac uses a generic browser function to display its Help pages. Tonight, I decided to see if 'command - +' and 'command - -'
would change the text size of the Help pages. Wah Lah!

It works!

Now if they could just put some really good info in those pages...

That's a browser? Half of the help files I open are skewed out of kilter and I have to figure out how to enlarge the "page" to read and scroll.

Not sure whether you know you don't need a browser or whether it isn't just the help files. It works for everything, with Tiger, at least.

Well, not exactly everything, D76 - it doesn't work in Word, for instance - it makes any selected text very small, like subscript - if you use "command +". But it works in lots of programs - Photoshop - most things Adobe, Dreamweaver (though the text is pretty much unreadable if you zoom in) Strangely, it does NOT work in Pages and in Keynote it actually enlarges the font in your document, rather than zooming in on the document. In Entourage, it adds someone to your Address Book.

Hmmm...well in Word that turns your cursor into a big fat plus sign (change it back with "option-command - ") and in Pages it still doesn't do anything.

Click on the desktop or otherwise get into the Finder, even with a document from another program on the desktop, and put the cursor where ever you want the thing to enlarge.

Open a Word document, or any document that Option-Command = (+) doesn't work with, then click on the desktop next to it. Then move the mouse back over the document, but don't click on the document. Then hit Option-Command =.

It works for me even when running System 9 stuff in Classic.

Guess so, 'cuz I still can't get it to do a thing to a Word document. (Of course, FINDING a visible corner of the desktop with 25 applications running is a bit of a challenge!
