Remote Access problem, continued

Mac, System 9.2.2, G4
Some of you may have seen this already, but here goes...there are some odd changes.
Experiencing authentication problems while trying to get online. I tried about 6 times w/o success.
So I go to Extensions manager, try a different set, restart, use Remote Access and I get online.
Then I go back to Original Extensions set, try again using Remote Access and I get online - using the same set that before had failed!
Why does restarting computer get me back on line with the extensions set that had failed before?

Because your preferences are set to that "extension set" as a default.
Reset a new default.....or.... Trash the prefernces and reset a new default.

Are you saying that when I restart using Extension Set XYZ, that means I have trashed and re-set all the preferences of that set? and that I have sort of fixed those prefs?

No, restarting does not change preferences. But, like you, I need a longer explanation. huh.gif
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

Restarting will reset the ports so that may have an influence on what works when.

I have an old mini app called 'Modem Resetter' which is only 4 K (probably a script).

If you want to send me an email address via krissel at techsurvivors.net , I'll send it to you. It may work so you don't have to constantly restart to reset the modem or port. Whether this will help your problem I don't know but worth a try.

Normal way to reset modem:

QUOTE
* External modems: press the modem's reset button if it has one, or turn it off for at least 15 seconds. If the modem does not have its own power cord, it draws power from the computer. In this case, disconnect the modem from the computer.
    * Internal modems: shut down the computer for at least 15 seconds.
