I was there!
Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

Interesting radio conversation midst all the buzz about demoting Pluto....

A caller asked why the experts were referring to the moons of other planets by various names, but the earth's moon was just called The Moon.

Answer: earthcentric universespeak
Earth's moon is actually named Luna.

GORGEOUS!

My husband and I were out walking 2 nights ago and stopped in our tracks to look at the moon -- it seemed larger, brighter, and more spectacular than we could remember.

I heard a report on NPR yesterday that said, "In case the moon seems larger & brighter than in the past, that's because it IS!"

He went on to explain that the full moon in conjuction with it's closest point on its eliptical orbit of the earth combined to appear as the biggest, brightest September moon in 8 years.

It should look just about as spectacular during the next full moon in a few more weeks, too.

One of NASA's series Astronomy Picture of the Day from last February – which I highly recommend for a daily "fix" providing perspective for News of the Day – displayed this dramatic "portrait" of the moon with an enlighening description of the various colors that only mosaics are able to "highlight", so to speak biggrin.gif  Both pics reveal a curious "resemblance".

Do check THIS out . . .NASA dazzler
QUOTE
. . . the different colors are recognized to correspond to real differences in the chemical makeup of the lunar surface - blue hues reveal titanium rich areas while orange and purple colors show regions relatively poor in titanium and iron. Calibrated by rock samples from the Apollo missions, similar multicolor images from spacecraft have been used to explore the Moon's global surface composition.
Marcel: this was done by one of your countrymen, I surmise.

And for the rest of today's astronomy lesson, boys and girls, check this . . .More surprises "out there" than you might imagine

I had some and actually liked learning those languages, just like enjoy learning some Cantonese now wink.gif
You would be surprised how much Latin based words you still use in these days.
for example... auditorium is based from the latin word "audi" which means "hearing" or "listening"... and that's also why the car brand is called "Audi" (since they wanted them to be soundperfect (quite inside).
condominium, villa, aqua(duct) etc.... you'll be amazed but i won't bother you with it wink.gif

From my "brief" experience learning Latin can be lunacy!   dry.gif
