Hang on to any of the new State of Alabama quarters. If you have them, they may be worth much more than 25 cents.

The U.S. Treasury announced today that it is recalling all of the Alabama quarters that are part of its program featuring quarters from each state.

"We are recalling all the new Alabama quarters that were recently issued,"
Treasury Undersecretary Jack Shackleford said Monday. "This action is being taken after numerous reports that the new quarters will not work in parking meters, toll booths, vending machines, pay phones, or other coin-operated devices."

The quarters were issued in the order in which the various states joined the U.S. and have been a tremendous success among coin collectors worldwide.

"The problem lies in the unique design of the Alabama quarter, which was created by an Auburn University graduate," Shackleford said. "Apparently, the duct tape holding the two dimes and the nickel together keeps jamming the coin-operated devices."

Why not just make all the coin slots wider???

Maybe they could get a Michigan grad to work on it. wink.gif

Gregg,
I assure you that no Michigan grad would be dumb enough to use duct tape to hold those two dimes and a nickel together.   harhar.gif

Well, Gregg's tail-puller post was much like the old question, "Do you still hit your wife?"  Any straight answer would only serve Gregg's clever taunt.  I had a choice of saying nothing or replying in kind, and I certainly couldn't stay quiet.   Look.gif

Remember another old accusation that someone eats mature and bays at the moon, and that someone protests that he doesn't bay at the moon?  My reply was that sort of protest to put the ball back in his court.   Thinking.gif

Take it easy, Penn State plays Michigan this week, and I have to root for Penn State while wishing the impossible that both could win.   wacko.gif

Ah, yes. It's the tuxedo that's made from duct tape. For the coins, a Michigan grad might be smart enough to use super glue. tongue.gif

Here in Georgia, we are quick to defend our lesser neighbors in Alabama, pointing out that not everybody in Alabama lives in a mobile home.

There's a waiting list.

Well, we're really in trouble now!

Who's going to explain this thread to George, or Belbram, or Highmac?
