NRA DVD stuck
« on: October 14, 2006, 12:17:12 PM »
I put a friend's DVD in the slot, the movie player(DVD) showed up but nothing happened.  There was never a disc icon appearing on the desktop either?

So now I cant get the stupid thing out.
Perhaps this was a PC disc?  Maybe the NRA better figure out that there are people who use Macs around here.

I will try to get out by restarting and holding the mouse down.

Here goes,
Jane

pc disks are mac compatible
was it a full size disk or a mini one??

if it was a mini one, you're sort of "screwed"

If by NRA you mean National Rifle Association maybe the DVD is the wrong caliber!   smile.gif

Yup, it was the wrong caliber.  It was full size and ejected properly when I restarted.
It just didnt show up on the desktop nor play anything.
The subject matter was already in the Rifleman magazine anyway, so I tossed it.
But I still wonder why it didnt work?

A DVD should be platform independent. The problem may be a bad or finicky disk or it was a glitch in your system.

Try again, try another computer or play it in a DVD player.

I have had DVD's that didn't work in computers but did in a regular DVD player.  I've had them work in one computer and not another (even if they had the same software load).

Hi Parker,  Remember the G4 tower that nobody wanted here, I just installed Tiger on it and gave it to one of our kids.  Its working like a charm, sitting on the kitchen countertop.  I didnt think it would handle everything, but I just finished installing iLife, Illustrator, Photoshop, and soon Matlab and other stuff they want.
They also are thrilled with Terminal being on it now, as they use that stuff all the time.
Thanks for the encouragement you gave me a few months ago, about that G4 being able to handle everything, you sure were right!
