Kurzeil's http://www.kurzweilai.net/index.html?flash=1 keynote address will open the SC06 Technical Program on Tuesday, November 14, in the Tampa Convention Center. In it he will explain how the paradigm shift rate is doubling every decade, so the twenty-first century will see 20,000 years of progress at today's rate. Computation, communication, biological technologies (for example, DNA sequencing), brain scanning, knowledge of the human brain, and human knowledge in general are all accelerating at an even faster pace, generally doubling price-performance, capacity, and bandwidth every year.

Not so fast! After working with top line number bangers for 50 years, I find that it still requires a well trained mind to understand and interpret the numbers. Also, humans must separate the "wheat from the chaff", that is what is really important and has no bearing on the problem at hand.

Tom, I don't see where anyone is denying the human element?
The faster crunchers will accelerate human activity and expand human knowledge expotentially, that's what i get from his point.
A Snowball rolling down a hill gathering speed and snowboarders until a solar flare permeates the atmosphere and microwaves us all, as we gleefully compute it’s trajectory and the meltodwn of the magnetic field. eusa_dance.gif

But in the meantime you can take an Apple course of study at this convention that will give you something else to think about!  cheer.gif
