Skype to Charge Annual Fee

We love using Skype for international calls, but I don't see how it could replace your home phone.  It would be a pain to receive phone calls on the computer.  If you're cooking or relaxing in bed, you don't want to get up.  And while sometimes I make phone calls from using Skype (within the U.S.), I'll stop as soon as it costs me something.

For international calls, though, we like it better.  Everyone can participate in the phone call at the same time.  It's more like a family reunion.

With innovation and capitalization Skype has great potential!!
$30 dollars is well worth the price for this adventure…. that will soon be the envy of the telecommunication industry.

Now all it needs is universal translators through a processor that is similar to iListen and the language barrier comes down.

Beam me up Scotty! wink.gif

It was a toss up between iChat ( and convincing the PC user to use a compatible service ) or 'buying' Skype. Naturally, Skype won because it was already cross-platform and could call 'out-of-area ( non-computer )' numbers. I suspect we'll pay the 'duty' for the next three years to smooth the feathers of my wife. And I won't even mention that I told her this would happen! eek2.gif

This may help a little:

The company is offering a half-price subscription to those who sign up before January 31. Calls from one computer to another have been and will continue to be free.
On the other hand, we'll still be paying for the 'free' calls, even if it's only $15 next year. doh.gif

And I may spend that saved $15 on Jon's app. He's an historic figure in the AppleScripting world. clap.gif

I won't complain, a bit under 3 bucks a month, about the cost of a loaf of bread.
I do like Skype.
Now that you mention it, Ive got some $ left in my account since most of my SkypeOut calls have been free.
