The first episode Hayward co-wrote for the two lead characters was "Rue Britannia," according to "The Moose That Roared" (2000), a history of the show. In the episode, Bullwinkle has to stay in the Abominable Manor in England.

"Shucks, I've been livin' in an abominable manner all my life!" the moose says.

That's the kind of humor that is missing in the world right now!

Oh gee. He was Canadian Mountie Dudley Do-Right's heart and soul. sad.gif

QUOTE
With partner Allan Burns, Hayward later helped create "The Munsters," and in 1968 the pair received an Emmy for their work on the CBS sitcom "He & She."

Born in Bayonne, New Jersey, Hayward moved to Los Angeles at age 17. He took a night class in scriptwriting at a local high school and went into television in the 1950s. He worked on "Crusader Rabbit," the first cartoon show created specifically for television, as well as "Get Smart," "My Mother the Car" and "Barney Miller."

Never saw "He & She", but loved the other shows.

Sad day.

I am old enough to remember Crusader Rabbit and Rocky and Bullwinkle is a True Classic, period.  I haven't seen an episode in many years, but I believe that they would hold up quite well in 2006. R&B was so well written that even adults could appreciate the humor.  Heck, the R&B humor was so subtle that only an adult would get some of the references.

For those poor souls who don't have the foggiest idea what we are talking about, this Web site will make it clearer...

On a related note, Yogi Bear creator Joe Barbera died Monday at the ripe old age of 95.

It's been a rough week for animators...

I loved the Fractured Fairy Tales.  smile.gif

Here are a couple interesting sketches for the original Rocky characters.

Wasn't Aesop's Fables a part of that series as well?

Just read that Joe Barbera died as well:

Such a great source of laughter and inspiration; I think a lot of the modern cartoons (saturday morning type) are flat and underdeveloped (pale)  in comparison (even some done with computers).

If no cartoon industry icon passes away today, would that qualify as comic relief?

I'm sure every generation feels its comic relief providers will never be matched, still, it is a sad day when R & B stands for something completely different and immeasurably less enlightening. Rocky and Bullwinkle was never intended for children. Only a few adults listen closely enough to others to ever hear their message. With humor being one of the best 'cure-alls' the world has ever known, it is sad when it is pushed aside as irrelevant because it might be irreverent.

Yeah! And I've got 'rhythm' just like Steve Martin in that movie where he grew up in a black family! wallbash.gif harhar.gif

Actually, I have rather good 'ryhthm' but I can't dance unless someone is shooting at my feet ( the best one and/or the other one )! eusa_dance.gif

I remember now the name of the movie was/is "The Jerk". That's related to the 'feet' part as in the feet usually move after a 'knee' jerk...fewer than six degrees...dntknw.gif And certainly related to Rocky & Bullwinkle in the details and interweaving of the plot and story lines that was well over the heads of casual viewers! flower-smilie.gif
