Good price for a used G4?
« on: January 08, 2007, 09:56:01 AM »
Good Morning,
I realize that without more info(OS version, ram etc...), this is probably a difficult question for someone to answer. I have an opportunity to buy a used G4 that is in a pawn shop. Cosmetically, inside and out, it is like new. The price they are asking is 299.00 which includes the mouse/keyboard but no monitor. Does this sound like a good value? They have a 30 day money back guarantee. What do you folks think?

Cheers!

There's a wide range of G4s. It helps to know the MHz. smile.gif

You should be able to beat these prices.

Can you at least give us the model? (Processor speed, single or dual processor...)

Pretty hard to judge anything without that. smile.gif

For reference (Apple PowerMac G4 466Mhz466/384/30/CDRW Digital Audio for $239):

I don't work for them but I've had dealings with them that worked out okay!  90 Day Warranty!

I knew it would be. They did not  have it hooked up so I could not get proper info. I just wondered if this was a good ballpark figure.
Thanks for the response!

Isn't there a litttle sticker on the back w/ the model # and various specs?

You don't need to turn on the computer
the specs are on the back on a label

I'm not sure I would accept acorns for a computer; it sounds like a squirrelly deal!   biggrin.gif

Under no circumstances would I pay $299 for any class or specification of G4. A G4 is a computer that is at least three generations old; and $299 is about half the price of a brand-new Mac Mini, which is far, far, far, far more powerful and faster. $299 for a G4 is obscenely overpriced.

While I agree with TACIT as a principal, and I paid $50 apiece for two G4-400's myself from work, I think there is something superior with a older expandible architecture!  If it was a dual-processor model it would be worth it to me!
