Which Compact Flash Reader
« on: January 27, 2007, 04:21:17 PM »
iMac G5 rev.A OS 10.4.8

I currently have a USB ZiO! CF Reader which is no longer working with OS 10.4.8. I was not successful at finding a driver for it. Currently I download directly from the Camera. Still I would like to be able to read my Compact Flash directly. Failing highlighting an URL to find a driver, what would be a recommendation for a new CF or possibly a multi Card Reader.

Sorry if I'm in danger of insulting your intelligence here, but I seem to recall my Zio CF reader was only recognised by the Mac if it had a card plugged in. Can't recall needing special drivers for it, on either the G3 or the G5 (though 10.4.8 was installed after I'd switched to a camera with an SD card).

PS: I no longer need my Zio so if you want to PM me your snailmail address, you'd be very welcome to it.

For forward compatibility, I'd go for a multi-card reader like this one:

Kingston 15-in-1 USB card reader (unfortunately sold out right now at Buy.com Canada...

Or one of these: ATP 15-in-one Card Reader

I have a very nifty EdgeTech 3 port USB hub/multi-card reader, but I can't find a Canadian outlet selling it. However, I've found it on eBay, but ending in 22 minutes... tongue.gif

Actually - no rush...the guy has stacks of 'em - just search on "USB CARD READER + BUILT IN 3 PORT HUB FOR LAPTOP PC MAC" - and he ships to Canada, and they're Buy-It-Now items and so cheap I'm considering getting another one for on the road!! Note: it is a POWERED USB hub - so it does have a small power brick, about 2"X1.5"X1"

Further edit re: Zio card reader - there are MANY, many complaints online about this reader not working past 10.2, Neil  - and causing kernel panics after sleep etc. Interesting that your experience has been so different. Is it the exact same model?

Guess I'd better fish it out of the drawer and double-check it DOES work (won't be tonight though - it's past midnight here and we're just off to bed). As I said, I'd changed cameras by the time I got to 10.4.8, though the iMac  was on 10.4 when I bought it.

Good night all smile.gif

PS - I got your message, JB. Don't know about model - had USB connector and came with the camera when I bought it in 2001.

Thanks highmac. I followed Paddy’s advice and bought a multi card Reader on eBay. So disregard my message.
