With "only" 22 devices that must be changed manually, I don't need another one that must be, that's for sure!
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

Unless you're on dial-up [gag!], just set Date and Time to update automagically [from a web server].

End of prob.

At the risk of injuring our own kbeartx....

I'm still on dial-up.

(It's free. If I switch to DSL or cable, I'd be paying for it.)

I think I knew that [on a subconscious level].  And you run OS 9.  Isn't that why you use a dinosaur as an avatar? coolio.gif

Having been on broadband for many years, IMO it is unthinkable to 'go back' to dialup. getsick.gif

Free is good, in general.  But I am happy to send money to TimeWarner or SBC for always-on, blazingly fast connectivity.

It's all about one's priorities.  I drive a fifteen-year-old car, use a five-year-old G4,  and have fast internet.

I stand [sit, actually] corrected.

I read the linked article, but I still don't undertstand why getting the time from a web server won't work properly. Thinking.gif

After receiving a PM from XABD, I now unnerstan! clap.gif

Ink-ace I wuzz knot alone:

The data that is 'broadcast' from online Time Servers is merely GMT, and the client [each individual computer] is responsible for performing the calculations necessary to offset this value based on time zone [physical location on the planet] and whether DST is in effect or not [based on the time of year].

Since the calendar dates for the start and end of DST were changed since the software [Panther, etc.] shipped, revisions to the code are necessary to have accurate times displayed. coolio.gif

I switched to the dinosaur after bailing Petra out in her fossile [sic] thread. It then became fitting for other reasons, as you note....

Frankly, I never gave this problem much thought until this thread. It never occurred to me that the dates of these changes were 'up-for-grabs' and actually could be quite different all over the world. Another 'American-biased' 'world' citizen? blush-anim-cl.gif One would think that Apple would have made this correction in any of its latest updates. dntknw.gif

Maybe His Steveness needs to use iCal to remind him of things like this! tongue.gif

I haven't downloaded & installed the "patch", but here's a comment from another Mac user.

Very nice of Ian, but at present the patch is causing the Macs it's tested on to Spring back and Fall forward, instead of the inverse (which would be correct). I just tested it myself and saw the same thing. Hope he'll get it turned around.
Cheers, Tom
