Problem inserting graphics into Mariner Write
« on: March 02, 2007, 07:52:29 AM »
Am using Write v.3.7.1 and Photoshop Elements v.4 on a G4 Desktop with OS10.4.8

Have scanned in a number of photos I wish to insert into a Write doc as Objects.
Despite the fact that the actual photos are mostly less than 5" x 4" (some are even only 2" x 2"), when I attempt to insert them they appear on the doc up to three times their actual size.      I have tried to correct the problem using Photoshop Elements but without success.

As a concrete example, I have a pic which actually measures 2.4" x 2.1".  When inserted into a Write doc it appears as 7.2" x 6.5".

What am I doing wrong?   Or to be more grammatic: What am I doing incorrectly, apart from abusing the English language?

Since posting the above I have had an iChat with Dick who has put me right.  Thank you again, Dick

Don't use PSE, but when you resize the photos, what resolution are you using?  In Photoshop, there is a "Image Size" menu, that allows you to change the size, and you can "Scale Size", which "ups or downs" the resolution while changing the size, or you can "Constrain Proportions" which keeps the resolution, but allows the image size to change.
Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

Thanks Jennie.  I had the resolution wrong.  You'll see my post above which I edited at just the same time you posted.

When you insert an image into Write, it will display it at the current screen resolution. That means ( usually ) something close to 72 ~ 96 dpi. If the image is actually 300 dpi, it will seem to be extremely over sized. Apparently, Write couldn't care less about your imposed dimensions. smile.gif But all you need do is grab one of the corner 'handles' ( you may only see the left-hand ones, of course ), press the shift key to maintain equal height and width resizing, and drag down and to the right ( assuming you grabbed the upper, left corner ). Now, you can move the image a little closer to where you want it and continue re-sizing as needed.

If you lower the resolution to make the image fit the page, you may end up with a degraded, pixelized output.
