Blinking Icons - Possible?
« on: March 07, 2007, 08:01:29 PM »
My desktop has wuite a few files and folders. Some of these I access every day. For example, all my 2006 Tax Worksheets are in a folder called 2006 Taxes. Is it possible that I can have the folder icon blink or for that matter any icon I choose blink?

Thanks for any ideas and hopefully they won't require a Computer Science PhD in Blinking Icons blink.gif  blink.gif ,

I doubt it is possible with the present Finder unless you do something in the Terminal or find a specific application. I did locate something that is a Windows product which allows for a mouseover effect and other fun stuff but I couldn't find anything for Macs.

Why don't you use the labeler and give it a unique color? At least that would help find it.

You can change the folder image to another static image of your choice by using the Get Info window.

For example, click once on your HD icon & go to Get Info. In the Get Info window, click once on your HD image (top left) & then select Copy under Edit.

Now click once on a folder icon & go to Get Info. In the Get Info window, click once on the folder image (top left) & then select Paste under Edit. Now the folder icon has been replaced with a HD icon.

This is just an example & you can change it back. I tried to copy an animated gif file & do the same, but it wouldn't work. You can make a small icon image of your choice & replace the folder icon image. I copied the TS mad smiley gif icon & changed it to a mad.jpg & then replaced the folder icon with the mad icon. You could do the same for your Income Tax folder.
Cheers, Tom

I meant to add that putting a really unusual icon on the folder would help as TMM has explained. I have some really weird icons on folders I need to find quickly.

If just finding them quickly is the object, you can alwasy put them in the sidebar of Finder windows...

I just don't think the current state of the OS allows animated images as folder/file/program icons. Who knows about Leopard? But I've not heard of anything like this.
