Anyone Use iPhoto Library Manager?

iPhoto Library Manager

A friend is wanting to find a way to move her huge iPhoto library from her iBook to an external drive.  iPhoto Library Manager seems to do what she wants but it would be nice to hear from someone who has actually used it...

Mayo, I can't contribute to this inquiry, but I do find it interesting. I use Camedia from Olypus for my photos because it had features that I became used to in OS 9 that iPhoto lacked. This library would be a welcomed feature in my hope to get back to using Apple software for my photos.
Thanks for the link.  smile.gif

Depending on what version is in use, that capability ( storing/using/moving ) the Library is already available in the app itself. May require version 6. dntknw.gif Probably in the File menu.

I may be wrong about this, but from what I have read in "iPhoto6: Visual Quickstart Guide" iPhoto Library Manager does more and with a much easier to use, intuitive interface.

Like iTunes, iPhoto has ways of handling files that are decidely idiosyncratic...

Here's an update...

This afternoon my friend and I used iPhoto Library Manager to move 35.5 GB of images (15,764 to be exact...) to two external drives.  We then deleted the iPhoto Library from her 60 GB iBook drive that was so full before we did this that some operations were impossible to accomplish.

Whereas iPhoto requires users to navigate a number of steps when it comes to creating and managing multiple iPhoto libraries, the $20 iPhoto Library Manager makes it very easy to set-up multiple libraries and access them, move or merge libraries, and just make iPhoto a lot more user-friendly. ("iPhoto 6 Visual Quickstart Guide" also recommends the free iPhoto Buddy to easily switch between iPhoto Libraries.)

This worked for me. Under Edit / Select All then under File Export, Then click on File Export then on Export then select the designation. In my case a folder on my external hard drive. I have iPhoto 6.0.3.

I read a lot of the reviews at VT before using the app.  Be sure to dig below the top three reviews to get a good idea about what it can and cannot do. It has file recovery and other features that I haven't used.

My friend is not computer-savvy in the least.  Like a lot of folks, she has trouble finding the time to learn much about her Mac and specific programs.  On the other hand, she is making some effort and I'm encouraging her to keep working at it.  Her real love is photography. iPhoto Library Manager makes it simple and fast for her to deal with her burgeoning photo collection and then get back to making pictures, which is what she would rather be doing...

For someone like her, an app like this that provides a relatively easy to decipher GUI helps her get the job done, so it's worth every penny.
