OT: Stock up on honey because the bees are disappearing!

“It’s not clear that there is a real issue here involving a disease,” Taylor said. “A lot of this is portrayed as a disease, and what it looks like to me is that there are probably six or seven causes.

“This situation is very reminiscent of the disappearing disease 30 years ago,” in which many bees left their hives and never returned.

The current crisis, tentatively named the colony collapse disorder, or CCD, has threatened the pollination industry and commercial honey production, with some commercial migratory beekeepers losing up to 90 percent of their colonies.

Chip Taylor, a big-time bee (and also Monarch Butterfly) expert at KU said the things above about the fact that bees are disappearing and dying all over the country and world.  I'm sure most people know that bees also polinate a lot of our commercial food crops.

That's Chip!

I heard of that.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the many times I've seen clumps of bees in trees and elswhere in the last couple of years. Before that I have seen that only once in my life. (A hive migrating with the queen).

Maybe they're hotfootin' it having heard of those pesky killers on the way.
How's it look in Canada? More bees than usual?

Serious problem.

It's a worldwide problem apparently...

I found this:

Very good, comprehensive read on the subject... and the commentary from the people following is interesting too.

Seems like I heard a news report about this recently.

We need a honey substitute to take the sting out of the loss.

ROFL! Can't help laughing, I keep thinking about my friends over the years who have said things to me like:

"What do you mean you picked strawberries? They don't grow on the ground, they grow on trees likes apples."

"Potatoes are root vegetables because my grandmother keeps them in her root cellar. They do NOT grow under the dirt."

"What are you talking about? Roosters don't have anything to do with eggs."

HAHAHAHA! Sadly I think most folks don't know this is a serious problem.

Can you get to her cellar on the Root Canal?
