More on the pet food recall
« on: March 31, 2007, 09:01:14 AM »
This is getting worse, another different poisonous compound found in the dry cat food. Our cat uses Science Diet, which is not on the list.  But how far reaching is this going to be?

Remember last year when Chinese officials clubbed thousands of pet dogs to death?!?  Because of a Rabies scare.  Why werent these dogs innoculated?
So is that the way to take care of a possible problem, not in my book it isnt.  Its pretty darn awful.

So is there a connection between China and pet dogs somewhere?  What is going on anyway.
How long is it going to take for this to effect some humans?  We all know that very poor innercity elderly eat canned dog food to suppliment their diets when they run out of money.  How soon will this take to endanger some of them?

This is really getting worse by the minute.

You said it!
Now I'm concerned about my Dad's dogs, and my sister's dogs, cats, and whatever else... the horses were sold.

Is there a link to the lists? My sister is so busy taking care of Dad and grandkids, she could buy the bad stuff without knowing it. I haven't heard about a recall of products. That's really amazing! Edit: If I would have been paying attention, I wouldn't be so amazed. I did hear the news reporter tonight saying that many products have been recalled.

Thank you for the links.
Yes I do think that humans better keep an eye on this stuff too, I wonder what is going to be next on the recall list. Scary situation, eh?

This site is a better one I've found to follow than Menu Foods:

http://howl911.com/#foods
There's a link to the recall list, also to what companies contract with Menu Foods at all... good list to look at when picking a good food to feed.

Jane, if it's true about people eating Alpo... it's still in the clear, but I sure hope not! I've heard of that in extreme cases too but I sure hope we're doing a better job of feeding people through food banks etc. than that.

For myself... I'm not sure why Canada would want to buy wheat from China for people when we grow so much... they thought they could get away with a cheaper source (maybe) for animals... they're finding out different!

I think I read somewhere the recall of dry food is because they found "melamine" in it.

Great link. Thanks!

Yes, the melamine story was on our news last night. We have a closet with shelves coated with that. Now I know not to try eating them.

Meanwhile, Hill's Pet Nutrition recalled its Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry cat food. The food included wheat gluten from the same supplier that Menu Foods used. The recall didn't involve any other Prescription Diet or Science Diet products, said the company, a division of Colgate-Palmolive Co.

IAMS dry food for cats doesn't contain gluten according to their web site, so it's ok. Nothing from Purina on their dry food so far. My kitties only get dry food - and it's either IAMS or Purina or a mix, usually. One of them is working on the end of a 25 pound bag of IAMS bought months ago, the other is eating some Purina bought last week.

I'm suspicious of all the reports; it appeared at first call as an opportunity to say "Communist China" over and over again.

First Aminopterin then "Maybe" Melamine but we're not sure? A higher then normal count of Kidney failure then nothing out of the ordinary?

Get the plows out, it’s snowing in Florida.

Industrial espionage?
Trade manipulation?

What I’m pretty sure didn’t happen is that China didn’t cut their own throats, though you wouldn’t know that from watching the news.

This whole issue is very suspicious and I doubt we will ever really know what went down. coolio.gif
