Kind of OT: Beware of these shoes!
« on: April 20, 2007, 04:05:29 AM »
I'm told these shoes are "very" comfortable:

But they apparently generate a "lot" of static electricity and have started to be banned in some places:

It's worth noting that the only place that carried them here where I live for a long time was Hallmark Cards ("When you care enough to shock the very best!").

They are certainly popular. I've never tried them, but they must be comfy.
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

Our office MacGiver said that 1) the surface (carpetting?) probably had as much to do as the shoes in the generation of static electricity; 2) they could probably make them out of a different type of plastic and they wouldn't do this!  He and I both had to go through the anti-static course that Apple sent out many years ago and we've both had to work in shops where static is an important factor!

Jane - As my friend the MacGiver said they're probably only a problem due to the carpet on the floor; you might kick them off and touch something metal before touching any computers or magnetic media!

Yes, I kick the stupid things off on the mat inside the back door.
But they are great for running out to get the paper when the grass is wet with dew or rain. But they are in the same place as our LLBean whateveryoucallem ugly boots, right by the mat inside the back door.
And the dogs ignore them so far,,,,,,
