Auto Booting
« on: April 19, 2007, 12:24:29 PM »
This problem just started yesterday. I shutdown my IMac (10.4.9) last night, it was on this morning. I shutdown to go out to lunch, came home to find computer running. Shutdown and went upstairs, as I was entering the room (about 5 minutes later) the computer started up all on its own. I checked System Pref., nothing was set in the schedule. The only new software I installed was an update to Eyetv, but I removed that about an hour later. Any ideas as to why my IMac is turning its self on ?

My guess(es): It may not really be shutting down completely. Do you stay around to see that the screen goes black and the power light ( assuming that 2ft iMac has one ) goes out? Does the drive go silent?

Or, the Mac thinks it was shut down because of a power failure and you have "Restart after power failure" set to "Yes". Or, more likely, the byte that holds the value for that last preference is set incorrectly to 1.

Have you checked the Apple Forums/KnowledgeBase?

Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

Newer machine? You need to talk to Apple about the Power Supply.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think the problem is with the eye-tv upgrade. I e-mailed them and they stated it was possible for eye-tv to boot the computer and suggested I reset the SMC, which I have done. I also downgraded to the previous version of the software. I guess I'll know later tonight if it worked. Thanks again.

Other than that, do you have Cocktail set to do maintenance at any particular time?

Well reseting the SMC seems to have worked, the computer stayed off all night. Thanks again everyone.

No need to call Ghostbusters. whew.gif
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.
