Adding system sounds
« on: May 17, 2007, 10:23:48 AM »
I want to add some sounds to my system so that Eudora has something FUN to use as an alert. (I can't believe we still have the same basic sounds we've had since I got my first Mac!)

Anyhoo ... how does one add sounds in 10.4.9?

How do I convert a wav file to an aiff file, or can the system use wav files? Actually, can Eudora use wav files?

Kimmer,

AFAIK, it's just a matter of creating (or copying) an .aiff file and then placing it in Computer/System/Library/Sounds. Once this is done, just select your new sound as you would any other.

And oh yeah, please let us know if this works. dntknw.gif

Thanks, pendragon. I just figured it was some form of torture (similar to adding fonts) to add sounds. wink.gif  Should have tried it first.

I used Audio Hijack to convert the .wav to an aiff, then dropped it in my system sound folder, where an alert came up and told me I wasn't allowed to play with those toys, and then popped up the admin log in, and I did and stuck my tongue out at the screen and drug the sound into the folder and now Eudora gives me a comedy routine when I have mail.

Londo: I don't like the look of this at all.
G'Kar: Ah, it's the damned El Nino.

HAHAHAHAHA!

I was once accused of creating the Uh-Oh sound effect because it sounds just like me. Had to prove it really came with the system.
