It seems faster to me, but more importantly, I can open Google Docs and Spreadsheets in Safari. I had to use Firefox before.

It's an interesting move to make Safari compatible with Windows.

I can't begin to predict the effect, but the genie is out of the bottle now! bottled.gif

Just an update.

I have now uninstalled the beta due to various reasons.

First, the memory leak is not solved, if not, it maybe worse.

And then the handling of certain links and/or buttoned links.  They just don't work within the beta.

This Safari beta will need to be refined a whole lot more before being useable in my eyes.  Speed is not everything if the parts are broken and you got a leaking transmission.

Hopefully when released the problems will be addressed.

Apple has already released a security update for the Windows version.

http://www.macworld.com/news/2007/06/14/safari/index.php

They've already had one million downloads in the first two days it's been available. Can't help but wonder how many of those were curious Mac users downloading it to use in Parallels or BootCamp! wink.gif It's the only place I could run it - no longer possessing a Windoze-only machine, and I'll probably try it some day, just to see what it looks like.

There's an interesting view on why Apple ported Safari from OS X to Windows. What's Apple's Safari strategy?
QUOTE("iTWire")
Whether 75 or 85 percent of Mac users actually use Safari is neither here nor there. Even if the Macintosh's share of the market is growing, current levels of use are not enough to encourage many web designers and developers to check that their pages work with Safari unless their target market is particularly Mac oriented or especially vocal.

I'm not going to get into a debate about which browser most closely supports the relevant standards, but as long as there are any significant differences in the way major browsers handle the code they're fed, minority browsers like Safari are going to be a nuisance that many web developers would prefer to overlook.

Speed Download apparently does not work with the beta.

Then I read that the Search bar only has two choices; Google and/or Yahoo. Two choices? Wow! Further reading indicates that, if you're using a Mac, you don't even get that many! The Yahoo 'choice' seems to be missing on the Mac version!

Is it still true that Safari has only one choice for searching? wallbash.gif Why? I just assumed that all modern browsers had dozens of choices for searching. dntknw.gif Amazing...
