FW or USB 2 (do you have USB 2 on that G4?):

I think you'll need Firewire for Booting.  Thinking.gif

Apple uses Pioneer DVDs and some others, not Apple ones.

DA's don't come with USB 2. It has to be added with PCI card.  Firewire is present of course.

Looking for that external pioneer dvd burner...found a new one : Pioneer DVR-112D
But could read on the web about that one...

DVD Player Support:

    * Mac OS X 10.3 (all versions) - DVD player works perfectly
    * Mac OS X previous to OS X 10.3 - DVD player not supported

not supported by the system but maybe by the applications...?

As i'm on tiger..
What do you suggest  for compatibility...?

Thanks

I 'm not absolutely certain but when I had a Digital Audio G4 I don't think it was able to boot from an external  optical drive (firewire or usb).

I ended up replacing the internal cd/rw with a Pioneer DVD-R and that was bootable.

Be cautious replacing the internal optical drive - it provides you w/ the ability to boot to a OS CD if needed, for troubleshooting or repair/recovery, and even the same drive in an external case might not allow that [not sure, make sure you check this out before you go ahead w/ this project].
