Adapters ...scsi/ata...mess
« on: June 29, 2007, 11:40:26 AM »
Hi,

Received today an adapter to plug an internal  ultra scsi drive to the internal pci card of my DA...
Drive set up don't see the drive....pci infos don't see the scsi card.... is there any driver needed..?

Received also an internal ATA drive ...even looking for 40 pins before buying , this one is to large to fit in the smaller plug of the DA...sure need another adapter:-)

I this also the small ata format whith the internal drives of the Yikes  ...?

What ata spec  should i look for to get the right thing, the right plug ...?

Thanks

GR

I don' t know. My approach would be to call Mac Mall or OWC or Mac Connection and talk to someone there. If you'd rather buy from a bricks and mortar retailer, then at least you'd know what to get.

PCI SCSI cards do usually require some kind of driver. Not all SCSI cards work with Macs; many are Windows-only.

For the Formac scsi card it's too late ...no driver for osx, removed it.

For the ATA plug ....  it's time for me to get some rest....or maybe it's the age...

Long time that i changed internal drives ,  i saw the internal female plug and looking  to the male plug of the drive i don't realize that there  also place for the jumpers, so i thought it was too large...the mess was in my head:-)

Anyway thanks for your replys and patience

I'm assuming the closing is your initials, as a shortened version of "grrrr" does not fit with the sentiment. wink.gif

FWIW, I believe ADSR is in Europe so MacMall, etc. may not be all that convenient.  smile.gif

I have an Initio,MilesU2W SCSI card in my DA which is connected to a 36G drive and it works fine. But I did have to do some updating of the firmware while in OS 9 to make it work. The SCSI card that came with the DA (on some models) was an Ultra card but some people added legacy cards (like in mine) and it wouldn't recognize an external SCSI drive I have while my Wallstreet saw it fine (in X).

Remember SCSI drives also have to have ID numbers different from all other SCSI items and must be terminated at the end of the chain.

There is a good reason why they talked about "SCSI voodoo".  wink.gif
