The ModBook?
« on: July 31, 2007, 02:00:27 PM »
Wow.... anyone have seen this ModBook?

I never knew about this till I listened to a Dutch podcast.
I tried to find more information besides the website but didn't really found alot.
Seems they are only selling it in US and Canada so far, although they said to be shipping it to more places last quarter of 2007 (so that means from september?).

It really looks interesting, would even be better to have a touch screen like iPhone but this will be OK for now.
I guess you can still hook up a bluetooth keyboard (or USB) also.
I wonder however if you can put the display up again? doesn't like like it?
Another thing is, if you loose the CD/DVD tray, you can even have it set with a second harddisk ohmy.gif
Plus, since you can order through OWC you can also have more choices of harddisks anyway, up to 200Gb 7200 rpm drives.... yaaaaay or order the 3GB Ram on the MacBook... oh sorry, ModBook. smile.gif

All starting from the original MacBook and they convert it.
The design is good (although not sure about the on/off button) but the double colored enclosing doesn't look to good.
Maybe it should have been better to start from the MacBook Pro so they could create the metal look all around.

Now I only wish I could see it in action somewhere.

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system

No reason to blush. I didn't miss two of 'em, but had no recollection of either. :senior moment:

Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

Converting an Apple MacBook into a TabletMacâ„¢ using the Axiotron ModBook conversion kit is best performed by a trained technician and will void the original Apple MacBook warranty.

No kidding?  It's not for the faint of heart anyway!

The second link from ABD did gave some good information to read smile.gif

About the warranty, I can imagine the original Apple warranty goes out the window yes, but that's probably why OWC offers the same warranty scheme when you buy a ModBook at them.
Standard one year and you can buy yourself an extended warranty (they say for the same price as you would buy it at the Apple Store for a normal MacBook?).

I must say, I am pretty interested cause it sure looks good... to have one tongue.gif
But I wish I could see one of them in action.
According to the website they are searching for reseller's outside US and Canada... might be an idea to start with.

It's been advertised in Macworld for a long time. Doesn't seem to have gotten any traction, though.

Marcel, unless you really need one now, I'd wait a bit.  Apple may have something of its own in the near future. smile.gif

Not really need one wink.gif would just be cool to have it hehehe.
Do you think Apple might (finaly) release it's own tablet Mac... not sure, but we'll see.
Just a few more weeks and Smiley is here (with her brand new 15" MacBook Pro), it's going to be hard for me not to make my iBook feel neglected blush-anim-cl.gif
