Here's one for Jennie....
« on: August 11, 2007, 05:18:09 AM »
My startup page for Firefox is TeeEss, so I visit the site daily, sometimes several times a day.  There's always a message saying "Welcome bellbram.  Your last visit was xday at --:--".

If that info is stored bellbram is obviously recognised as a bona fide member.  Why then, if I want to do anything other than browse do I sometimes have to log in again?  Thinking.gif

I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason, but I have to say I find the process a tad irritating.  Perhaps if I knew the logic behind it, my irritation would be be dissipated.  smile.gif

Ah... sorry I'm not Jennie, but following the instructions for your browser/s regarding cookies here may help:

Especially if this just started after our recent software update.

db:  You are excused for not being Jennie  smile.gif.  The instructions given for clearing Firefox caches in the link you gave do not seem to work with FF 2.0.0.6.  To do this it seems one needs go to Firefox>Preferences>Privacy.   I find that I had the Privacy panel set to clear private data when closing FF.  I have now amended that to prevent cookies being cleared.  We'll see if it works.   Thanks muchly for the info.

OK... smile.gif That should do it!

Thanks for mentioning the instructions on the help link don't work well with the newer FF, although they "should"... we can update them with the alternate route.

FF 2.0.0.6 here, and I didn't know about the Tools Menu item, so I went looking.  It may also be the "Clear Authenticated Sessions".  Try unchecking that.

And I'm experimenting here.  I want to see what "Clear Authenticated Sessions" does

Do not fear your enemies.  The worse they can do is kill you.  Do not fear friends.  At worst, they may betray you.
Fear those who do not care; they neither kill nor betray, but betrayal and murder exist because of their silent consent.

Jennie I have now amended the 'Privacy' instructions from "Clear Private Data when I close FF" to "Ask me before clearing".  Then one can use the 'Settings' button to select the items to clear.     Since doing that I have several times quit and re-opened FF and seem to continue to be logged in.  So all is now well and my irritation soothed.  biggrin.gif

Funny, I've had exactly the same experience with the TS site as bellbram every time I've started up Firefox (same version). My privacy settings are pretty much identical... So it occurred to me that I hadn't taken a look at cache and cookies just now, and, voila! After dumping the old cookies, which were still there after the last upgrade to 2.0.0.6, and the TS Site upgrade, and clearing the cache, I just restarted the program several times and remained logged in.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
