What can I do to eliminate those annoying pop-ups in ff taht keep wanting to connect to check for new versions of Add-ons?

Thanks, I will manually check for updates.

Examples below.

I have pop-ups turned off. I think. Maybe?

What do I have to do? i hate pop-ups. Especially when I am about to type something. Annoying!

I don't know why Firefox is checking for updates if you have that option turned off. Perhaps your preferences have become corrupted. You could try trashing them and resetting them. I just have my updates set to automatically check and install for all categories - it doesn't bother me much and so far, no issues. I guess it might depend on how many add-ons one had, though!!

Turning pop-ups off in FF will only disable those generated by web sites in the browser itself - not at the system/application level, which is what you're seeing. The LittleSnitch pop-up will appear unless you tell LittleSnitch not to bother you...in which case, I'm not sure what the point of the program would be! (I've never used it, so I don't know how much one can customize it though).

Paddy,

The pop-ups occurr only when I'm running firefox. My first window above.
The second window shows my ff pref settings.

neither of these is associated with Lil Snitch, which I do have installed.
And it only pops up when I switch gears or something.

Or maybe I'm misinterpreting your response?

The first window refers to ff "add-ons".
So maybe one of those is what is causing the pop-ups?

Thanks, Jack

1. Open your list of Add-ons.
2. Disable all but one or two of them.
3. Surf for a while (2+ hours).
Did the pop up reoccur?
NO = One of those disabled add-ons is causing the pop-up. Select another one or two to enable. Repeat step 3.
YES = One of the add-ons that is running caused the pop-up. Select one and disable it. Repeat step 3.

When you find the culprit, check the developers web site and see if there is an update to fix this behavior. If not ask him/them to fix it or tell you how to stop it. Important! Please report back on their response and what add-on it is.

4. Enable FF to check for updates when it starts up (see your prefs screen). That should negate the need for any add-on to attempt any contact with its 'home'.

5. Take two aspirin and call us in the morning. smile.gif

Jack, the first pop-up is generated by Little Snitch - see the top of the window; most Mac apps identify themselves this way. smile.gif

It would appear that it is one of your add-ons that is causing the Little Snitch window to appear - impossible to tell from the message which one it is though. tongue.gif

While the add-ons themselves have preferences (Firefox->Tools->Add-ons - then you'll get a list and can get to the preferences of each by clicking on them one by one) none of them seem to have any further preferences for updates. Those seem to be set globally via the Firefox Advanced Preference tab. So, other than doing what Jim suggests to try to find the guilty party and/or changing the preferences (and telling Little Snitch to either allow the connection forever or not allow it forever; otherwise it will bother you every time) or trashing them and resetting them, I don't have any suggestions.

paddy,

Whoops! blush-anim-cl.gif  oops.gif

I should pay more attention!

xABD & paddy,

I disabled a couple of my addons per your suggestion. We'll try that out for a while. Then we'll try different ones. Then maybe others. Then ...

I'll keep y'all posted. May take a while.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions.
