Abobe InDesign CS3 Standard
« on: August 18, 2007, 12:57:20 AM »
We don't have lots of money so this is the first time I've had to install CS3.  This is on a iMAC Intel 20-21" (whichever it is) and I started at about 2:30pm in the afternoon.  At 4:30pm I called my rider who works in my office to tell him I'd be late getting back to pick him up.  Also about that time we started to get rain (hoorah) and thunder.  Of course there is no way to stop that I know of and the progress line on the 1st (Application) DVD is just finishing and the install is "thinking" or whatever.  Then we get a little brownout in the power and the iMAC locks up.  I decided I was hosed on this so I just powered off and left it for the next day.  The next day, after trying to find out if I need to do some sort of manual uninstall I just powered up and put the DVD back in.  It offered to either "repair" or uninstall and, against my better judgement, I decided to go ahead and let it try to repair.  It did fix it and it took a total of 6 hours and 20 minutes or so to get it all repaired, installed and updated.  I'm sure glad that she can only afford 1 license.

Has anyone else done the thing the first time from start to finish (without repair) and how long did it take?  I'd hate to do it on 13 G5's iMAC's in the lab with only the single copy of the media!

I remember having something like you but that was CS1.
InDesign just took a loooooong time installing for itself (all the other programs went well) but I just sticked to it, thinking I'll watch it out and if the system doesn't crash, it will be ok.
It didn't take 6h20 but it took 40 minutes or something.
6h20 Sure is a long time and you might have been better of doing the uninstall and then install it again.
Just try a different computer and see how it goes.
