wireless extereme card goes bad?

just a general question about airport extreme card. I have an ibook g4, circa 2004 with an airport extreme card. lately it will get very weak wireless signals, or will only get one bar when a person sitting next to me will get full signal. Sometimes i can even be standing in front of the wireless router and it won't get a signal. should i order a new wireless card, or is there something else wrong with it?

I've seen this before and it usually turns out to be a antenna connection.

it gets gubbered up and needs to be cleaned and reseated.

I have had "one" wireless card that went bad but I agree with Sandbox in that this sort of thing is generally the connection to the antenna.  You should also go through the settings in the Network preference panel!
