Through my wife's work in DAR, I've become aware of a foundation that builds houses that enable our wounded soldiers families to be with them during much of their recovery. There are about 30 of these houses available now, most in the US, of course. You can be a directly help to these men and their families even if you don't live nearby. Please take a look at their web site and seriously consider how you can become involved in this unique resource for our servicemen (active duty or not).

In a strange coincidence, my wife got an email alleging that Denzel Washington was involved in a particular way "recently" with Fisher House. A quick check at Snopes revealed that parts of the email were true but that the main point was not and that the event occurred back in 2004. Still, it was an interesting read, as most Snopes entries are, and there's a quite humorous quote from Mr. Washington at the very end! Sounds like he is as self effacing as he is talented!

Is DAR the Daughter's of the American Revolution?  My mom joined that organization back in the 1960's and quit when she was snubbed or something; I'm sure your wife's mileage varied on this!  As for Fisher House I think it's a great idea!

"Snubbings" happen, especially when there are more than two people in a group! Not that it's acceptable, but there is always that 10.1829% in most groups of people (other vertebrates sometimes have better percentages). Hopefully, the "snubbers" have been "scrubbed" by now!
