Good article. I think the G4 was probably the best all around chip in many a year.

The interim between the earlier PPCs and the G3 was the 604e which had 'inline' cache that was the precursor to the backside. My trusty 9600 did very well in tests vs the early G3s, holding its own and even besting them on some parameters. Then I had to upgrade with a G4 when X came along.
My Wallstreet is running a 466 G3 and performs with 10.3.9 pretty well considering its age.
