Powerpoint presentation with music. NOT
« on: November 19, 2007, 02:58:21 PM »
I received an email with a PPS attachement (3.5mb) of 12 slides and background music, (which I just found out is in .wav format) The slides view fine but the music just is not there. I have perused the PP formums and find lots of info on how to create shows with music but nothing on how to make the music play. wallbash.gif

I can find nothing within the PP Preferences except an option to link sounds of "greater than size" which I boosted that up to 5mb sad.gif

The PPS was created on a PC with PowerPoint 2000 and .wav

It has been confirmed to work on PC's with Office 2000, XP and Vista wacko.gif

Wont work on Mac office 2004 OSX 10.4.10
or
Mac X and osx 10.2 verysad.gif

Any and all input is much appreciated

Hi Daryl, I'm going to just guess here, but it would seem that the .wav file might be missing.
12 photos 3.5 mb would be a reasonable size PP file. With music i would suspect it would be larger.

If you want to send the file I can check it out on XP.
You have my email just send it to the house.

SB: I have forwarded the email to 3 windoze users and all are able to view and hear the music.  2 have full "Office suites" but one only has the PP Viewer plug in, so would guess the .wav is there someplace. I did do the compatibility check. No problem.

Kris: Thanks for the links. Looks like there is "Lotsa" pain but no solutions.

Why no sound track using PowerPoint 2004 for Mac? - Steve Rindsberg

The sound in the PPT was indeed embedded and was an MP3 masquerading as a WAV.

I opened it in Audacity (free download from SourceForge.net ... google Audacity for a
link) and saved back out as a WAV.  It got way bigger but after substituting the newly
saved WAV in PPT in place of the previous one, it plays on Mac now.

Since the file was embedded, it was not a linking problem.

It seems that Mac PPT can't play MP3s in WAV clothing such as you'd get by using CDEX
on WAV files, although the Mac on its own can play the things ... I copied the
original WAV to the Mac desktop; doubleclicking it there launched it in Quicktime
player, where it played.

This seems to make as much sense as anything else. Question now is how does one  Masquerade wacko.gif when it is not even Halloween??

This is not a big deal it was just one of those ear scratching  issues that I could not get my arms around. It will in all likelihood never come up again.

Thanks to all who responded.
