Not at all. The smell is from the oil, not the potatoes. You have to get the oil very, very hot so the latkes will be crispy and not greasy. After a couple of hours' cooking, the oil is … not at its best.

I always use canola oil because I'm afraid olive oil would affect the taste, but I don't know if there's a better alternative.


While peanut oil is a bit more expensive, it's worth it.

The beef looks good, though I may prefer your Roast more , not carng to much for canned mushrooms, soup or otherwise, and maybe a bottle of Red Zinfandel from the Russian River? wink.gif

Thanks! I'll give peanut oil a try next year. Don't know if my family would go for sweet potatoes, though. Much too radical. dry.gif
