It's thin, so it's called "Air"?

What are they smoking?

Maybe they're just breathing, yep, you know it's coming.... thin air!
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

Speaking as someone who sees the inside of broken computers thinner isn't necessarily better!  rolleyes.gif  I would also expect to see the lack of an optical drive at the $1,800 base price and the less then high-performance hard drive (OK in an iPod but probably a little slow for a laptop) will make it only a bargain for those interested in eye candy to amaze their friends!

QUOTE
The MacBook Air will ship in about two weeks. It lacks an optical disk drive, which could make it tricky to load software. To get around that, Apple developed a program called Remote Disk, which allows users to download software from the optical drive of a nearby computer using its built in 802.11n wireless connection.

I would wait to see how well Remote Disk works!  I'll bet loading Adobe CS3 would be far less fun than it is normally.  The return of the tech curmudgeon?  toothgrin.gif  This is the picture I prefer with Steve magically removing his head with the blade of the new thin laptop:

I think it has the "air" moniker because 95% of its communication will be via the 'air' in the form of a wirless connection.

It is thin, but it is also curved. That's a major reason cars are designed the way they are. Curved sheet metal is much sturdier that flat sheets. But the extermely thin edges do make me worry, people may end up with slightly less beautiful machines after dropping them on their edges a few times. eek2.gif
