Where do I find this?

I was attempting to get help from Micromat. Their "e-mail us" link automatically opened up Mail. That's where I got stuck. Putting "Incoming Mail Server" in the Finder's Help box didn't turn up anything.

I circumvented the roadblock by just noting the e-mail address and sending them a message from a web based account.

Were you using Safari when this happened?

Apple assumes that one one would use any other email program besides Mail. eek2.gif blush-anim-cl.gif However, hey did put a preference setting in Mail that allows you to tell the OS what app to use if you click on a "mailto" link in some app.
That's just one of the little 'gotcha's' you'll be finding in X. Another will be that you must open Safari and use it's prefs to tell the OS to use another app for surfing. At least they give us the ability to change these settings, strange as the location might be... wallbash.gif

Yes, and I clicked the "e-mail us" link whereuponwhich it tried to open Mail. (I prefer a letter opener myself.)

Hey, ABD! I do have Entourage installed, but have not used it. Our e-mail addresses are web based.

So, can anybody tell me what to type in the "Incoming Mail Server" box? And that would be...

It's often either:

pop.YOURISP.WHATEVER

or

mail.YOURISP.WHATEVER


But if your email is all web based, then it won't do you much good. wink.gif

If you use a google email addy, they have info on their options page on what to plug in where. Not sure if Yahoo allows pop mail stuff or not. Don't know about any other email addys.

If I recall correctly, your email is on a server back at work or something like that. kimmer, is correct, probably, but that info should still be on your older OS 9 Mac somewhere. Thinking.gif

Yes, my wife used\ tongue.gif to have a POP3(?) e-mail from work that we were allowed to use from home. They have converted to web based now. I'm not even sure that if I fired up the old G3 and tried to use Mozilla Messenger that I could even get her mail or send any out.

Furthermore, our new DSL account with AT&T did not come with a POP e-mail address. They offered a web based e-mail through Yahoo, but the yahoos messed with the password I gave them, then said the user name I supplied did not exist. I haven't tried (again) to straighten that out.

So, with no POP account, can I even use Mail or Entourage? If not, then does that mean web pages that want to open an e-mail "client" are going to be out of luck???

AFAIK, Mail will/can use IMAP accounts. Look in its Help menu and enter "IMAP." I have no use for web mail at home, avoid using on the road, if possible. Too many ads on those entry/company sites.  getsick.gif  Just give my mail, thank you very much...

BTW, the 'slash' is always the forward one, down there on the "?" key. smile.gif

Thanks. I made a note of it.

You're using the wrong web mail. MyWay.com has no ads. krissel is the one who recommended it to me. While we do have problems with certain e-mail getting through (even though the exact address, not just the domain is in our "Safe List") we aren't barraged with animated or even motionless ads of any kind, ever.

I have a couple of free email addys that are web based only. I use them for companies so I don't get more spam than normal. wink.gif  When I go to a web page and it auto opens my email client, I simply go, copy the TO addy, go to my web based free email, hit COMPOSE, paste the TO addy in place and finish the email and send it off. It's a work around, but it works.

I'm guessing that would work for you. smile.gif

When it opens my email program, yes. If it's a form on the site, then no.
