New Dilema when opening Firefox 2.0.0.12

Since installing Firefox 2.0.0.12, every time I activate ff, I get the following from Little Snitch:

Wants to connect to Mozilla on Port 80.

Then, when it fires up I get:

"You've been Updated to the Latest Version of Firefox"

I have my update preferences as follows:

I posted about not wanting automatic checks for updates a couple of months ago. It has been still checking, but NOT EVERYTIME!

What in the heck gives.

Do I need to go down the cable and beat Mozilla on the head?

Not sure but it sounds like FF sets a cookie to show that you made an upgrade. But it is not being allowed to erase that cookie when it closes a session because you have blocked that option. Since the cookie is still there, it just keeps alerting you about what you did some days/weeks ago. Similar to some System files that are erased with a normal shutdown. If they are still around with the next start up, the Systems assumes you didn't shutdown properly. dntknw.gif

I don't mind most software letting me know (about once a week, usually) that there is a new version available. YMMV. smile.gif

Good suggestion, but when I checked the cookies, there were none from Mozilla or Firefox.

Edited to add: "The tried and trusted good old 'Delete the .plist file stupid" !

I deleted the org.Mozilla.plist file and VOILAAA!.

No more of those annoying interuptions and messages!

Glad you got to the bottom of it, Jack. That's one more new thing in OSX that I am unfamiliar with. I tried looking up some other things in Help, and they weren't there. I'm still waiting for the Apple Store to get the Missing Manual for Leopard in stock, and working my way through the more elementary Leopard for Dummies tome. So much of the later is very basic, but there are little gems along the way, things that OSX veterans have gotten used to, but newbies like me have never seen before.

So, anticipating that plist won't be in the Help list, maybe you can tell me more about it....

Plist is like the old preference file (preference list). Removing it and restarting the application cures a bunch of ills.

Main difference between OSX plists and OS9 prefs is the fact that they are in more than one place. No more finding them in one folder in the System Folder. They can be in your user Library or the main Library or within Application support folders, etc.
Sometimes finding where they are located is easier when using Spotlight.
