DLd it and installed... no problems so far...   posting using it now.

Will post if problems encountered....

SEEMS faster??!?!??


Later:    DLd and installed on my wife's G4 Macbook (10.4.11 also) and all went well... but at 'restart' it went through the 'OSx Tiger 'startup assistant' routine??  NO problem, but just the same a little different.....  Seems to be running well there also and 'more speedy'....

Yes - it's just as speedy as Webkit or Firefox now - did a few side-by-side tests on about 4 sites including this one and it's nice and zippy. biggrin.gif

Curious problem with Safari 3.1 and 1Password. On my G4 iMac (OS X 10.4.11) and Safari 3.1 (PPC version), 1Password icon appears as expected on the Safari toolbar and functions normally. However, (as reported by many at 1 Password forum), 1 Password icon does not appear on the toolbar on my Core 2 Duo Macbook (OS X 10.5.2) with Safari 3.1 (Leopard version). Since Camino is my default browser, this is not a major issue, but makes Safari not very usable at the moment on my MacBook.

Just gave it a go and it does seem rather nippy. I always felt that Safari was a fast browser but it just does not cut it for me. Out and out speed is not everything. If I was to be persuaded to use Safari it would need to have the equivalents of
1) AdblockPlus
2) Browsersync
3) Customize Google
4) Noscript

As well as Phishing protection and better cookie management.  Until then I'll keep on using Firefox.

Having Safari already, please advise... If I download and install the new version, will it simply update Safari, or will I have two of them?

This was not in the Software Update alert a couple of days ago...

Just released today...   Will only update current version, not install a 2nd.   Need to quit Safari if active, before trying to install from 'software updater'  and will require a 'restart' of your computer.

Safari 3.1 vs. 1Password: I read at MFI that the latest beta of 1Password will return full compatibility and functionality to those using Safari. An a non-beta version should be available very soon. They do make corrections very quickly! clap.gif

I DL'd 3.1 but as has been pointed out, until it has the add-ons/extensions available for FF, it will remain my secondary browser. That it may encourage CSS support is great but until others step up to the plate, it will make little difference. OTOH, when and if M$ notices the increasing number of PC Safari users, they might even decide to support what the rest of the world has already dicovered. wallbash.gif

A bit of detail...

1. The Debug menu has been renamed in Safari 3.1. It is now called Develop menu.

2. One no longer needs Terminal or a third party app to enable the Develop menu. It is now available via Safari Preferences/Advanced pane.
