Google home theme now black background with white text!!!

I have bee using Google as my browser homepage for quite  while. It came up as a theme with a white background and black text. The characters were multicolored. Just today, the home page theme changed. Now it comes up with a black background with white text except for the word Google whose characters are multi-colored.

Does anyone know how to change back to the original theme? I tried to do this from Google's home page and found the right theme but when I selected "use this theme" nothing happened.

It's a Google option ... I found this notice on the page (and mine is also black with white fonts):

We've turned the lights out. Now it's your turn - Earth Hour. The Google Earth Hour page has a full explanation, that begins:

Once you enter a search it reverts to the normal white background on the results page.

It threw me for a loop when I first went there earlier.    I thought there was something wrong with my monitor.
