600mhz PowerPC G3 iMac
« on: April 04, 2008, 09:33:25 AM »
This machine has OS X 10.3.9 and it's original spec had a front loading CD player, I have changed this for a DVD player and whilst it is recognised in "about this Mac" it will not play a DVD, silly me I then I checked and found that there is not a DVD player installed when I assumed (never assume) there was one installed.
How and where do I get the software to enable the player.

Hi George,

There are several ways you can go... the iLife suite from Apple has iDVD in it, which will play or help you record DVD's is certainly one way, available from the Apple website. I'm not sure what would be available to you in either shareware or freeware, but I'm certain someone will be along shortly who does!

What model DVD player is this?

Chris,
I have iLife '06 but since I have a G3 it will not install, the minimum requirement is G4.

It's possible that the DVD player software did not load when you installed Panther because a DVD player was not recognized as being installed. You might try a reinstall of Panther.
Cheers, Tom
