Now it's about the mini. Will Apple upgrade it or simply drop it completely? Yes! No! Maybe! Opinions, conjectures, rumors. You'd think we had enough to talk about without this [thread]! blush-anim-cl.gif

Since I bought one, they have to discontinue it.

Previously, I had:

Beige G3 Desktop

Mac TV

I don't want a tower next!
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

I wanted one to replace the eMac in the future so it's likely going to be discontinued. I like our Samsung monitors so i didn't want an iMac.

I truly think Apple ought to heed all the begging and produce a cheaper mid-size tower; one with easily swappable parts (ie: video cards, HDs, RAM) but perhaps not the horsepower or massiveness of the MacPros. I don't know how they do that without cannibalizing iMac and MacPro sales, but it would make Macs a viable desktop alternative for those who want some ability to customize or upgrade, can't afford a MacPro and don't want an iMac.

The problem with the mini is that its price approaches that of PC mid-size towers, but it doesn't offer any ability to upgrade, which is a bit of a stumbling block for many.

What's wrong with a Desktop model??

I'd go with a "tower" as long as it's less than 8 inches tall.

What Apple (and most others) called a "desktop" was a box that was took up an awful lot of that very thing. Most people put their monitor on top of that box, even if the box wasn't strong enough! eek2.gif So the manufacturers got tired of having those beige boxes destroying any kind of style or cleanness of a desk and put all that inside stuff in a vertical box and called them "towers." Of course, that immediately brought to mind "power" something that all manufacturers fought about for years... It's only thanks to the ever decreasing size of electronics that we didn't end up with "desks" that only had support on one end! The other end would be supported by the humonginormous "tower!" smile.gif

I think Apple is at a cross road with the mini and Apple TV. Neither has developed into a big seller, their almost identical in (possible) capabilities and they are still too limited and costly.

The mini is nothing more than a laptop without a handle, all its parts are of that heritage. So there's no reason it couldn't be as powerful as any of the laptop they make. But they love to keep that profit rolling in, so don't expect them to do anything that they can't see as a net gain in that.

That's my theory, anyway...smile.gif
