I had recorded a film on our PVR and transferred it to the G5 iMac; the film played fine in MPEG Streamclip and I then converted to MPEG with MP2audio to burn in Toast. The resulting MPEG played fine in Streamclip but in QuickTime it had no sound (I DO have the codec). And it would get half way through the preparation for burning and just lock up.
Fortunately my failed efforts were in creating a disk image or I would have had a pile of coasters. Eventually I looked for help on the
Topfield forum where a poster gave me this from a previous post:

Have you tried checking the "Convert only one audio track" option in Preferences? Some broadcasters transmit an additional audio description track for the blind, which can end up being used as the main audio track after conversion with MPEG Streamclip. Checking the option may fix the problem, if that's it.
