The New Eudora
« on: May 28, 2008, 08:28:52 PM »
In the Living Dangerously thread, Mayo mentioned Odysseus, a Eudora clone that is in the works. I'm really looking forward to this app, and I noticed that they have a bargain price if you pre-order:

QUOTE
Development of Odysseus has been progressing at a rapid rate since the latter part of 2007. As of March 2008, we have released several builds to a select group of testers, leading up to a 1.0 release that will be available to the public in June, 2008. In anticipation of the official release of Odysseus, we are pleased to announce the following pricing structure:

Single User License
$39.95 - This will be for the entire Odysseus 1.x product cycle.

Upgrade License
$19.95 - This will be for full version releases, such as going from version 1.x to 2. While we are estimating major version upgrades every year or so, if they occur in under a year's time, that upgrade will be free for users of the previous version.

Pre-Registration
$19.95 - Beginning April 15th, 2008 this option is available to individuals who would like to receive a license to Odysseus at a discounted price. While the final application will not be widely available till June, anyone who pre-registers between April 15th and the 1.0 release date will receive a license to the final version of Odysseus at approximately half price.

If you would like to Pre-Register Odysseus, please go to our Purchase page...

Educational & Volume License
If you would like information on Educational or Volume Licensing, or would like to discuss upgrading your current Eudora® Volume License to an Odysseus Volume License, please contact our Billing Department.

I'm going to pre-order. Even if it's a dud (which I doubt), I've blown more than $20 on books I didn't like, so Sneakers can't really complain. biggrin.gif

Ditto! I depend on Eudora too much to try to shift over to a less than satisfactory client. By the way, Eudora is working just fine with 10.5.2. I do hope Odyssey will have some more bells and whistles than Eudora, e. g. search all mailboxes feature.

Unless I am missing something here, Eudora can search all mailboxes... Go to Find/Search All. (I edited "open a mailbox" because I was interpreting "situational behavior" of Eudora that doesn't usually apply...)

MamaMoose, I routinely search ALL my mailboxes in one fell swoop. For years, I've used Eudora as a database of sorts (when FileMaker Pro no longer functioned and I didn't want to pay the upgrade for personal use) -- so I do all kinds of in depth searches in Eudora.

Greg, it's all kind of legal. laugh.gif

Mayo, you're welcome for the heads-up; and yes it rained here yesterday -- but we only got a smattering compared to what you folks got. eek2.gif  Having *roasted* just 2 wks ago, we've hardly seen the sun since. The leaves on my geranium are turning yellow from all the rain.

True, you can search all mailboxes at once. You don't even need to select any mailbox. Just select Special->Search All and you'll get a window ready for inserting the text (assuming you haven't searched for anything since opening the app). You'll see the complete list of your mailboxes on the left side of the window and you can click on ones you don't want included. clap.gif The trick is to use the Special Menu not the keyboard shortcut command-f. wink.gif I guess you could always assign some keyboard combo to that, however. dntknw.gif

The main advantage with Mail is that you can keep the cluttering windows to a minimum. Judy usually never closes a window in Eudora thus making it virtually impossible to see the Desktop or any other running program. wallbash.gif Of course, even if you could see her "Desktop" you would still find it hard to spot anything since she keeps about 50 icons on it all the time. At least four of them are folders I created to drag all the icons into about every 6 weeks! laugh.gif

It already has a keyboard command - sort of. wink.gif

OPTION - COMMAND - F

brings up the same window as

Special->Search All

but not all the mailboxes are selected. To do that you simply move your mouse to EUDORA FOLDER, click it and bingo ... all the mailboxes are selected. smile.gif

True, the keyboard shortcut you mentioned does bring up the window. But if you are going to have to do something else to select the group that you want (all) why not just use the Special->Search All menu, anyway. That way the window opens with all the mailboxes selected, WOW.gif just like the menu command says. dntknw.gif One less mouse-click! Clicking takes time, time is money, money is short, I'm rather tall, where is this going... eek2.gif rolleyes.gif
