Printer problem
« on: June 22, 2008, 12:33:12 PM »
Set up
one G4 tower running Tiger
one Intel iMac running Leopard
one G4 Powerbook running Tiger
and common to each of them is one Cannon Pixma 4200 printer.
This little network was working fine as it has been for a few years until a couple of days ago when "Her Ladyship" (the owner and user of G4 PowerBook) announced that the web page she wanted to print would not.
When asked "what were you doing prior to asking for a printout " I get the " what a stupid question look" and the reply "I don't know"
So there you have it.
I have tried every which way to restore communication between each or any one of the  units to no avail.
I have isolated the printer with each unit and it does what I expect it to do PRINT, but put it back on LAN and no joy.
What has gone wrong? the ball is now in your  court TS
COME UP WITH AN ANSWER TOOT SWEET  TS OR MY STANDING AS iTEA manager is in shreds.
George.

George, I'm resisting the temptation to respond with

"Sounds like you've got a network problem."

Really, I am. devilishgrin.gif

I'm just shooting in the dark here, but is there an equivalent to a preference file for the printer? That's so rudimentary that I assume you thought of it already. I can only wish you luck.

Do you get some kind of error message when it doesn't print?

George, how is the LAN configured? Do the Macs share the printer wirelessly or in some other manner?

To what device is the printer physically connected.

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

Have you checked to see if something has changed in your printer sharing preferences?

In Mac OS 10.5 the printer sharing setup is different than in earlier versions of the Mac OS. Go to the Apple menu, select System Preferences and then click on the Sharing icon.

Click on the checkbox to the left of Printer Sharing to turn on printer sharing. Click on the Printer Sharing label to the right of the check box and the list of printers configured for the computer will appear in the right-hand side of the window. Each printer in the list has a checkbox to the left of the printer's name. To share a particular printer check the checkbox next to the printer's name. It's possible to share more than one printer; make sure the checkbox next to each printer is checked. Close System Preferences by clicking on the red Close Window button in the upper left-hand corner of the System Preferences Window.

Something that has worked for me in the past is deleting and then reselecting the printer in the Print and Fax preference window.

See Mayo's post above. Wish I'd said that!

Sorry for not responding earlier (family commitments) and sad to say having tried the suggested remedies I am no further forward.
Does anyone have another route that I might try?
Again I must apologise if my response is slow in responding to any further help as I will be driving 300 miles north to Inverness to visit a sick relative in hospital and then returning the following day (Saturday)
