I have both Office 2004 and Office 2008. The former is upgraded as far as possible. Unfortunately O2008 is just a disaster inn that its components take forever to load and it doesn't have VBA. Therefore out of necessity I mainly use Word 2004 for my writing.

The other day I had just completed a 10 page section of a technical document, saved it and closed it. I then reopened it to do some final editing and it appeared in Page View with a font size of 36 points!! I went to normal view and the font size was 12 points under Times New Roman font. For the life of me I couldn't figure out went wrong. I closed Word, reopened a blank page and tried to paste the enlarged version into the new document, but no joy. After an hour of fussing with the damn thing, I finally w=quit.

Then I thought of Time Machine. First I pasted a copy of the "enlarged" and latest version into Text-Edit Plus. Then I went back in time to a mu h earlier version, restored it and voila everything was Normal. I hen compared  the Text-Edit version with normal but earlier Word 04 version and now I had a clean Word version of my document. I did lose all my equations because Text-Edit couldn't handle the Equation editor in Word.

So, Time Machine was a lifesaver and Word 2004 turned out to have some sort of flaw.

Word 2004 has (had) a lot of font corruption problems. Not sure if this has anything to do with it or not.

What happened when you selected the entire document and tried to change the font size in Page Layout view?

Good info here, and in that link.

One person says removing FontCache Tool solves the problem. I found it in MS Office/Office/Support Files. I moved it to the desktop for now. I assume that it cannot be executed if it's not in the proper place.

I see that when I highlight the FCT icon, the Edit menu gives me an "Undo Move" option. I wonder if that's the replacement for the old "Put Away" command, and will be there for me later if I forget where it came from.

Wait, I can just search for the term here!

Don't think it's a substitute for "put away" - it simply undoes what you last did in the Finder. So if you do something else, it will give you the option of undoing that. You can't go back and have it offer you the option to undo something you did several moves ago. (undo and redo are the only options - on one operation)

I've had the joy of restoring accidentally deleted files myself this week! I had an html page finally working the way I wanted and couldn't find what I'd done with it. Searching offered no hits, even with Path Finder. I finally realized the simplest thing to do was to "go back in time" to a spot I knew the file existed! Sure enough, there was all my html and CSS work! clap.gif

AFAIK, there is no longer a "Put away" function, except, of course, as the very next thing you do... The OS has never offered more than a one step 'stack' of actions you can return to. There are several apps that can store just about anything you might delete or copy. But none of them, that I know of, can return a file to where it was before a move. dntknw.gif

I was hoping it would "stick" with the icon and allow me to undo the last thing I did to it. Not sure what constitutes doing something else in the Finder, but just opening and closing windows hasn't taken the Undo Move option away. Time will tell...

Moving a file/folder, of course. Here are a few more things you can do: renaming a file/folder, adding/removing items from a folder, creating a folder, searching for a file/folder, creating a Smart Folder from said search, labeling a file/folder, changing the display from icon to List to Column to Cover Flow in any and all combinations, un-mounting a volume, adding/removing items to/from the Sidebar, adding/removing items to/from the Toolbar, making duplicates of files/folders, making aliases, compressing files/folders, burning a disk. I'm sure there are more but those just came to mind (what little there is left of it!). smile.gif

And apparently I've now done something. The Undo Move is no longer available. Just opening and closing windows in the Finder doesn't change the Edit menu.

Try NeoOffice
It works well, it's the only program I could use to open .docx files.
