Hiya,

Has anyone who uses an iMac had a problem with Safari refusing to open? On double-clicking, it tries to open but stops. Everything else seems to be working fine. As you saw by the subj. line, I'm tryin' to help a friend in need but I don't have much info about her OS and versions. One of the few things I know is that, as a photographer, she runs Aperture and iPhoto. I think she bought her iMac some time last year if that helps. I've done a search within TS a few times but have failed to find a direction (might be my own limitations). I'd appreciate guidance - even better, a quick fix. smile.gif

Thx in advance for help.

First, Welcome Back! Long time, no see! wink.gif

Since the app won't even start, there's not too much I can suggest. Only thing directly related might be to rename the ".plist" file. Just add something like "old-" to the front of it. Or even move the whole file onto the Desktop. It can be found in the "userName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist" where "userName" is the name of the user account that was set up originally by the owner. It's usually the icon in the Finder Window's Sidebar with a 'house' image. Click that, then look for a folder called "Library" and so on down the path to .plist file.

After renaming or moving that file, try starting Safari again. It should automatically recreate that plist file but without any corruption that may have been in the old one. If things work, you're good to go. However, it might not be a bad idea to use the "Reset Safari" and the "Empty Caches" items in the Safari menu. Next make sure the site/file you want to use as the 'home' page is actually available.

If the above file renaming/moving doesn't work, there are some more things we can try.

Please let us know how things go. And include the version of the OS as well as for Safari.

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COUNTRIES
Those that use metric = #1 Measurement system
And the United States = The Banana system

I will pass along your thoughts and advice to my friend and will let you know how it goes. It all sounds so logical!

How about recent upgrades? Did she change anything lately?

Of course, if you had the OS and Safari versions, at least you could determine if they're compatible...
Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

Thanks for the cheery welcome ... smile.gif
I don't know if she changed anything but that's a great thought. All I know is that, as of
last Monday night or thereabouts, Safari stopped working. sigh If I find out more info, I'll post it. I 'preciate all the help.
