Trying to install Adobe Flash Player 9
« on: August 07, 2008, 12:54:17 PM »
Just curious...

I mucked around on my daughter's MacBook Pro trying to help her finish an installation of Adobe Flash Player 9 for Intel Macs.

Repaired permissions, went looking for a .plist file to delete, which I couldn't find, and still got this:

And then, another little box pops up and says that she has insufficient privileges to install this program.

And, then the installer hangs up.

Anyone got any bright ideas?

TIA,

Is her account setup as an Administrator?

If not, it definitely explains the prob and the error.

How 'bout free space on the drive?  Got enough, or is it very tight?

Setup a new admin account as a test.

Try one more install. If it still does work, download a new file/installer.

I'm assuming that you downloaded the correct version for her machine and that the Mac has the minimum requirements. All that info is in this page (which you probably used, anyway!):

Thanks gentlemen...

Tried all that, except the new Administration account. She is set up on that computer as the administrator.

Should have enough space??? there's 16 GB left, starting to get maybe a little tight... (it's got a 120, with a partition for Windows XP, so there's 16 GB left on the 10.4.11 partition. I'll have her take a look and see what we might be able to move over to her back-up drive.

I'll keep after it, see what happens.

Thanks,

CK

See if removing the cache files helps: ~/Library/Caches/Adobe/Flash Player/AssetCache
You might try moving some of the folders from here: ~/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash Player/
Only other Adobe/Macromedia suspects are here: HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Registration Database
There are also some files in that same Application support folder in the Macromedia folder.

Since that "Registration DB" is in the root Library, it may be what the installer is looking for. But I'd also try installing in the Admin account. Hopefully, the installer will offer an install "for all users" option. Thinking.gif
