WebMonkey Article

If you use Gmail at all this message is for you.

Within a week or two there will be an exploit released that allows someone to monitor and hack your Gmail account.  There is an easy fix for this.  Under the settings tab in Gmail is a setting at the very bottom that forces Gmail to use SSL encryption.  You will know you are using this if your browser reads https://mail.google.com and there is a lock in the bottom right corneer of the browser.  Gmail does not default to this so you must enable it.  You will notice no functionality difference but you will have to refresh the page once you save the changes.

Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

You're welcome, Gregg and Jane.

Sandbox, thanks for the snaps.

I adjusted my Gmail acct and so far haven't noticed any problems. I still use Thunderbird to log in and download it.

I've used Seamonkey and didn't care for it at all.

TB works well for downloading Gmail -- especially since that's all I use TB for. tongue.gif

An alternative way of forcing Google Mail (they are no longer allowed to call it Gmail in Europe) to use SSL is to use the Customizegoogle extension with Firefox. It also provides a one-stop way of turning on SSL in Google Docs, Calendar, Reader and History.
