Sir Paul wants to release an unreleased Beatles Song.

You might think there were no unreleased Beatle songs but apparently there is one and it's 14 minutes long:

It may not be the Beatles we know:

QUOTE
McCartney said during a recording session at Abbey Road studios he asked the other members of the band to "just wander round all of the stuff and bang it, shout, play it. It doesn't need to make any sense."

Know what you mean wink.gif

Must admit I was never a great fan of McCartney on his own or with Wings and that  told me where the musical strength was in the partnership. But that could just come down to a question of my own taste. I'm not a musician and it would be good to hear a musician's views, albeit they will still be personal (are you there, Chris?)

Well, it goes like this...

I am a Beatles era guitarist. By that, I mean that they inspired me to pick up a guitar in the first place. Of course, it was for all the wrong reasons whistling.gif Devilish2.gif...

I was a devout Beatles fan, but also loved many of the other big groups of the time, and many who've faded into obscurity (remember the Blues Magoos?).

I too never really liked Sir Paul on his own as much as I liked him with the Beatles. Part of it was because the music tended much more towards Pop as he went forward with his career. That in no way diminishes his great musicianship. And I went off into a completely opposite direction, becoming a devotee of our great American roots music, the blues. That part of my own musical evolution began a long time before the Beatles broke up.

But that didn't mean I didn't have a version of "Norwegian Wood" handy on my 12 string!

Yes, the Beatles... there has never been a band like them, they were such a phenomenon...

So, yes IAW you and Kim, I also prefer the Beatles of my youth!

NPR is currently streaming McCartney's new album with Youth for free:

It's pretty interesting - a LOT of variety - the first track is by no means representative of the rest of it. I'm listening to it now and quite enjoying it. smile.gif

Isn't it interesting (not that this has anything to do with the Beatles ... but) how our tastes sometimes change? I was so into the Rock & Rock of my (our?) youth. By my late teens I'd moved more into folk music, and spent every Friday and Saturday night at a local coffee shop that had hopeful, and sometimes already successful, folk singers on "stage". Then I flipped back into R & R, but by the mid-70's, my taste had turned more towards classical music, then religious (and to this day I adore Linda McKechnie's Hymnworks - which is a blend of hymns and classical and simply stirs my soul).

I grew up listening to Big Band, Barbershop, classical, and other music, so I'd heard it ... but until we moved here and Mac took me to a jazz concert, I'd never really listened to jazz. It really stirred my heart. From there it was an easy transition to blues (and I listen to Chris's music almost every day). Plus the Four Freshmen, Limeliters (folk, but the one group also did some soft jazzy type songs), Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald and more ... and it makes me happy, calms me down and helps me get through the rough spots.

Sir Paul will always be the Paul of the Beatles that I remember watching on Ed Sullivan. biggrin.gif

grinch.gif Thread sidebar here... (not quite the same as hijacking but...)

Kimmer's mention of The Ed Sullivan Show reminded me that the local highschool is putting on "Bye Bye Birdie" this weekend.... and, of course, the premise that Conrad Birdie was to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show...   I saw the director a week or so ago and he was telling me what a time he had explaining to the cast who and what The Ed Sullivan Show was and why it was such a big deal.
Having been the Technical Director of the same show as a senior in high school makes it a 'must see' this weekend...

End of sidbar... thanx.gif

"Bye, Bye Birdie" was a great couple of movies (I liked them both) but I've never seen it as a play; lots of nice music in it I'm sure!

Ah, the Beatles, Ed Sullivan...

That made me think of a project I did with my fourth graders. They had to take off one of their shoes, put it on their desk and draw it as realistically as possible. The lesson was fun for them (after they got over the "euuwww" factor of removing their shoes.  wink.gif Included in the skills to be learned were methods for using comparative measurements and shading for three dimensionality.

When I assembled the shoe drawings on a large bulletin board for display, I put them inside a giant outline of a shoe and put up the title "A Really Big Shoe" with "apologies to Ed Sullivan" below.  The older teachers all had a good laugh but most of the younger ones as well as the kids had no clue.  I enjoyed the private joke and chuckled at the puzzled looks on parents' night. smile.gif

As to the Beatles, they were the one rock group that my Dad really enjoyed (and still does today). I listen to them and a mix of Motown while I do my laps at the Y.
