Help maintaining a website
« on: November 08, 2008, 11:33:45 AM »
Hello, my friends! Hope all is well in the TS community. I have been busy, writing more articles than I have time for, but believe me, hardly a computer session goes by that I don't think of you all. That’s the truth.

This is my question:  There is a brand-new, 1-year-old dance company out of Buffalo, NY, that is already receiving awards for choreography. (They are playing at Dance Chicago this weekend, and they are terrific.) My son just joined this company, and told me some pretty amazing stories about the man who started the company, his phenomenal personal generosity and kindness toward people.

The problem is, when I went to their website to buy tickets, they did not even have a working link to Ticketmaster. Much of their schedule for the upcoming year is listed as “TBA” -- yet it is fully set for the whole year. There is no reason that information should be missing. When I asked the director about the website, he said a “friend” was taking care of it for him for free in his spare time. The director is such a kind soul, he indicated he “wished” the site could be updated in a more timely manner, but felt “grateful” for not having an additional expense. I’m not sure he even realizes the vast importance of having an up-to-date website.

I know that this company is just getting on its feet. The director is tremendously generous with the company members – I’ll spare you the stories my son has told me – and it is understandable that he is trying to save money by letting his “friend” be the webmaster.

This website, as I see it, is very simple – a few links to a half-dozen pages with photos and information. Nothing to buy. So what I’m asking is whether anyone can recommend a webmaster who is very responsive, dependable, and as inexpensive as possible.

Thanks, and best wishes to everyone,
Lorraine

Ya gotta applaud those bunnies for sacrificing their hearing just so some guy in Cupertino can have better TV reception.

Um...me? Send me a PM, Lorraine. It's the sort of thing I enjoy. I do schools, non-profits, a choir in MA...some for free, some not. smile.gif

Send me a PM, also. I'm no expert and it shouldn't cost anything. But you might only get what you pay for! eek2.gif I'm sure Paddy will do a professional job for you, however. smile.gif

Believe me, Gregg, I had to grab my hand (like Dr. Strangelove) to keep from raising it and volunteering to do the job. But I am so swamped with personal projects right now that I probably wouldn't be any better than his friend who is doing it. Besides, I'm not a professional and not sure I would do a good job.

Paddy and Jim, thank you so much ... I had a hunch to write to you rather than posting here, but I could never do an end-around my TS family! Besides, how could I miss the opportunity to come back & post?

PM coming.

Thanks again,
Lorraine
