Not surprised at the state of the White House computer system.

QUOTE
Mr. Bush stopped e-mailing when he entered the White House, citing security worries, and the Oval Office does not have a computer in it.
Eight years and he basically didn't touch a computer? You can see that it wouldn't be a priority for him...

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that about many CEOs in many conglomerates or just large corporations. How of ten does the CEO actually speak/write/email to anyone not already in the next office or on a hot-line somewhere else in the world. Writing not only takes longer and is less interactive, it can be less secure, either in transmission or in archives that the writer didn't know existed! eek2.gif rofl.gif

Of course, this is just my opinion, I've not been too close to any CEO lately... blush-anim-cl.gif I would just hope they had more to do than type messages on a computer. And they certainly don't need one to keep up with the financial status, inventory, personnel matters, etc. of the corporation. That's not their job. Nor is it the Presidents, IMHO. THere are simply too many details in this government or most any large company for any one person to have it all in their computer (and certainly not in their mind!). That's why any good leader has a staff of experts who can be honest and open in their dealings with the leader. The leader counts on their skills, knowledge and integrity to provide him with the facts and consequences as best they can. Once that's been done, it's the leader who must make the final decision and take full responsibility for it. And now, back to our friendly, non-political, platform agnostic, helpful discussions. losemarbles.gif blush-anim-cl.gif Igotago...scram.gif

using Internet protocol encryption technology and NSA-certified cryptography
So, it's not actually anything that MS developed. That's a relief! One can probably count on one finger how many times MS has been linked with 'good security. All they've done is hard wire the security system into their device. I suspect that any company doing that would be approved, assuming the hardware is not made outside the US or that no one is able to access the code or maybe have the code burned in upon arrival in the good ole US of A.

Frankly, I find the continued dependence on MS software, very uncomforting! Aren't these high-level IT specialists supposed to be aware of what is happening in the real world? Are they included in the masses that have been brain-washed by the MS hype? As even Mr. Clinton would have said, "It's the software, stupid!" doh.gif wallbash.gif I am still hoping for some real changes. That's what he promised. How long do we have to wait? This is not the financial problem, Iraq, not even South America. THere are better and safer options. "Just do it!" And i really don't care if it's not a Mac! Seriously!

Hundreds of thousands of virus/bugs, trojan horses can't be wrong!

No mention of M$ in this article:

On a related note (yes, I know - an article from a year ago):

I gave it some thought and wondered if they would use wifi....mac Airs in the whitehouse?

I suppose eventually you'd find a room that you like and put a computer in it, but it wouldn't be fun for me if I couldn't walk around with my laptop. From what I've read DuhbU also used a Mac?  pizza.gif

His inbox would be full if people knew his addy.

I can remember seeing a picture spread taken in the early days of the "W" administration that showed someone pounding away on a "glass teletype" IBM terminal.  The article doesn't say but I wonder if that thing is still lurking in some closet/cubical?   rolleyes.gif

We've got two threads running on this topic. I'm merging them, since the same things are being discussed. smile.gif

Apparently it's unknown whether the White House has a wi-fi network used by White House staffers or not:

As you can see, Tom - we'd been discussing this for a while, so I merged your post into this thread. wink.gif
