Only the standard, skimpy reasons. Backup, back up, bacup, bak up! wink.gif Running some of them now. Enjoy! eek2.gif

Individual updates went fine, even the iWorks update. However, pressing "enter" to activate the "Close" button for the iLife Support update, all except one window disappeared, the Menu bar, also. Pressing "esc" caused Front Row to start up. dntknw.gif Everything in that seemed to work! "esc" shutdown Front Row and returned to the empty Desktop. This time, the mouse also disappeared. However, mousing down far enough, eventually caused the Dock to appear (I keep it hidden). However, nothing, even the running apps, could be made to appear with any window(s). Nor could any idle apps be started. Main Menu still displayed it's menus but they were also unable to start any app. Shut down with power button. Restart was normal, 'confusion' seems gone. Could have been a quirk of the iLife Support updater. dntknw.gif

iWorks updater went normally.

BTW, all these updaters were downloaded from Apple, not from Software Update.

All updated iLife apps (that I ever use, both of them!) seem fine. YMMV.

So, now I know what living on the 'Bleeding Edge' feels like! eek2.gif

Why did you download from Apple, but not via Software Update? Hmmmm? dntknw.gif

Never heard of anyone getting a bad file from an Apple download. Many report problems when using SU. I have sometimes used SU to just do the download and do the update later. Never had a problem either way, but you can't be too safe! For example, I never update/upgrade anything without first making an archive of the original first. OS X makes it so simply easy right in a Finder Window. That way, when the update/upgrade doesn't work or causes problems, I just delete the new file(s) and un-zip the old one. And you don't need Time Machine to do any of that. wink.gif

Of course, all the files Apple sends probably come from the same server whether one uses SU or a direct download, so the whole exersize may be moot! blush-anim-cl.gif

However, the biggest problem with SU, IMHO, is that it leads people to make installations before thinking things through:
Do I have a recent, working backup of those files?
What, exactly, will this update do and to which app(s)?
Am I doing anything besides making this update? Back ground activities may conflict with the update or a required Restart may not save the work done in that back ground process.
Can I afford to fix a problem right now or would it be better to complete the project at hand?

Many of Apple's updates require a Restart, if you agree/select several of those at once, you may not know which one causes any problem that appears at the end. Best to do those one at a time, IMHO.

Thx. I do do downloading one file at a time; and I always save the restart files for last. For the rest of your clarificationisms, I'm thinking .... I'm thinking ...  Thinking.gif the loss of iPhoto data alone could gag me.
