Drums and Music
« on: May 09, 2009, 08:30:53 PM »
I posted a photo of my 3 guitars here. The unknown is that I started playing drums in 1958. Just a Ludwig snare. I stopped playing drums in the early '90's when our CW band broke up. That was a 16 year run. If you know bands that is a miracle to have a band of any kind run that long. I played percussion in high school in the orchestra. Swan Lake? Yep.

I took up guitar as a junior in high school. A Kenora gut string, from Japan, I suppose. I went in the Navy and did 2 tours of Vietnam between '68 and '72. I took a Gibson Dove with me. The Gulf of Tonkin was a great place to play "The Boxer" and "Kathys Song". Remembrances of our country and freedom from  long way away.

I bring this up as I tuned into Comcasts country channel and heard almost a songlist of all the different songs I played drums in for the band. Sonors. Black and chrome. Zildjian cymbals and the Martin D-28 which I learned songs on to bring into the bands list. "Bad Bad Leroy Brown and I Love a Rainy Night. Just was struck by hearing these for the first time in a long while. Thought I would say this here. all my children were born while I was in this band. Blue Grass-Country Western. A treat to hear some of this again. Doc Watson...as a parting thought.

I have dinner to make. Thanks for listening. Tony

Thanks, Tony - you might like to check out our continuing "What are you listening to...." thread. Most of us have found something new to try from other folk's recommendations. wink.gif

Only long enough to clean the windows in the cockpit.  whistling.gif
